The five things that David Cameron must do next
We have confirmation this morning from a poll for PoliticsHome.com that voters have recognised that Cameron is outperforming Brown in the saga over expenses. 57% of voters think David Cameron handled the scandal best, compared with 11% saying Brown had. I have argued on my blog that Cameron has the appearance of being decisive, but all he has actually done is removed one aide and made other pay money back. He cannot afford to exclude deselection, if he does; there is a real chance that Gordon Brown, whilst being a ditherer, may steal a lead over Cameron on firm sanctions. David Cameron has been warned, the public are watching his every move, he must not try and ‘smoke and mirrors’ approach.
